Architectural Lighting Group (ALG) was responsible for the lighting design of the Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, which opened on April 13, 2025.
The Bahrain Pavilion was designed by Lina Ghotmeh—Architecture, an architecture firm based in Paris, France.
The Kingdom of Bahrain flourished through its pearl industry.
This pavilion is modeled after a ‘ dhow boat’ (a traditional Bahraini wooden boat) vessel once used for natural pearl diving.
It represents a fusion of Bahrain’s traditional shipbuilding techniques and Japan’s woodworking craftsmanship.
On both sides of the pavilion, there are water features that symbolize the sea.
Underwater lighting is installed in the water features, projecting the ripples created on the water onto the building’s walls.
These ripples, reflected on the wall surfaces, create the impression that the pavilion is embarking on a voyage, illuminated by the light of the “Mother Sea.”
In addition, the underwater lighting is RGB, allowing for red and white lighting effects inspired by the colors of the Bahraini national flag, and it is controlled via DMX, enabling time-based lighting control.
The underwater lighting is equipped with RGB capabilities, allowing dynamic lighting in red and white—the colors of the Bahraini flag.
It employs a DMX control system, enabling adjustments according to the time of day.
