Minato Mirai 21 District Heating and Cooling Center Plant
MM21 is a district heating and cooling facility in the Minato Mirai area, featuring a French-made nodular tank approximately 40 meters in height.
Based on the architect’s intent to make infrastructure typically concealed underground visible above ground, a lighting design was developed for this project.
ALG introduced color effects using 70W metal halide lamps with RGB filters on the tank body, while the crown at the top is illuminated with 100W high-pressure sodium lamps to create a symbolic presence visible from afar.
The contrast in color temperature between the different light sources adds a rich expression to the nighttime cityscape.
