The theme of the Bahrain Pavilion is “Weaving a compelling narrative of Bahrain’s exceptional openness to the world, cultural diversity, and spirit of innovation,” and the exhibition will showcase the fusion of innovation and tradition. In this issue, the lighting design of the Bahrain Pavilion is presented. Proceeding inside from the pavilion entrance leads to the atrium, a four-storey atrium. The atrium is surrounded by natural light and the soft glow of circadian lighting. It is a safe and welcoming space that feels like a womb. It is a wellbeing light space where you can feel rich and happy. The lighting in the atrium is timer-controlled and the colour and brightness of the light changes from morning to night. Lighting design for Bahrain Pavilion -2 – Well-being lighting(1)
The Bahrain Pavilion was designed by Lina Ghotmeh-Architecture, based in Paris, France. ALG – Architectural Lighting Group designed the lighting and created a wellbeing light space that symbolises the Bahraini nation. The pavilion is inspired by the ‘dhow boat’, a traditional Bahraini wooden boat. The architecture is a fusion of traditional Bahraini shipbuilding and Japanese woodworking techniques. It consists of a wooden structure and an aluminium exterior wall, and is a fully recyclable structure once the Expo is over.
